WHY MY BED?

Why MY bed? That's what I'd like to know. Lexie's got her own....but oh no...that just won't do.  No sireee bob.  Now, it's after 11 pm & it's MY bed that gotten put outside for the nite, not hers. Mom said it has to be totally disinfected before it comes back inside the house. Why? Well, just let me tell you.  It all started, kinda, when mom got tired of all the racket we were makin' in the back yard...& then we weren't.  For some reason, she thinks that "weren't" part is a signal for her to come investigate. Not really, we're just regrouping.  Anyway, she comes out & finds us under the fig tree lookin' up.  She looks up, but doesn't see anything.  Then she looks down & sees a lot of broken limbs on the ground...some of 'em kinda big. She is NOT happy...& starts picking them up to put in water, hoping she can root them tomorrow.  So, there she is..under the fig tree pickin' up limbs..here & there...& then she stands up & feels a limb on the back of her head....she brushes it off.   It doesn't feel like a limb & it moves.  She backs away & shines her lite...right into the face of a big male possum.  I was sure glad she shined that lite on him...'cause we had kinda lost him in the dark, so, of course I jump up & try to grab him.  She's backin' off, 'cause that limb is really flexible, & I think she was worried that possum was gonna boomarang right at her. The possum has a 5 point grip (countin' that tail) & is movin' pretty fast up that limb outa my reach.  Lexie is goin' nonstop w/her barkin'.  Mom's past bein' startled & now she's mad.  She goes into the house to get dad's pellet gun.  By the time she gets it loaded & back outside....I've shaken that varmit loose.  Mom comes out to find me w/a satisfied grin & Lexie runnin' off w/that possum in her mouth.  I head for the house for a cold drink of water (my job's done, as far as I'm concerned).  Mom's on the chase w/Lexie.  Round n' round they go...in n' out they go...mom's tellin' her to "leave it", "drop it', "wanna cookie", "go to the kitchen"...just about anything she can think of to get Lexie to leave that possum alone & go in the house.  But, you have to understand, Lexie is too worked up & her ears are OFF.  Mom follows her around the path to the pond, thinks to head her off around the grapefruit tree...then looses her. She goes all over the yard...twice...can't find her...or the possum.  With one of those terrible "ohhhh nooo" feelings, mom goes into the house.  There's me...in the kitchen by the fridge wantin' some ice & lookin' for mom's reaction to what's next (Lexie..you've just gotta love her...she makes me look so good)...& there's Lexie..also in the kitchen waitin' for a cookie.  Then....there's that possum..on MY bed.  OHHHH NOOOO is right.  Mom heads for my bed w/the shovel she still has, me & Lexie head for my bed to...well....not sure.  I just want to make sure that possum doesn't start runnin' around or attack mom.  Lexie probably wants to get it & take it outside.  Mom grabs Lexie & locks her up in the laundry room.  Then she gets the possum off my bed w/the shovel, grabs her lite, & back out she goes.  I follow for security.  About halfway across the yard, that possum grabs the shovel & starts to pull himself up the handle.  Now, mom's holdin' it halfway down the handle, so there's not much between her & it. I see what's goin' on & offer, by jumpin' up, to take care of it once & for all. Mom's walkin' really fast & tryin' to keep it outa my reach (don't know why).  She makes it to the back fence, drops the lite & flings that possum over the fence.  Whew!... As she starts to make her way back across the yard...she hears a voice.  It's the neighbor, standin' at the gate askin' her what's she's lookin' for (he saw the lite goin' criss cross across the yard that bunch of times when she was after Lexie).  So, she stopped & kinda gave him a small version of what happened.  Wanna know what the most surprising thing was?  Mom was actually wearing regular clothes.  It's just a matter of time before one of the neighbors starts video taping her. lol.

BAILEY & LEXIE REVIEW TREATS FROM THE HONEST KITCHEN

Well....what have we here?  It seems another big corporation needs our help.  The Honest Kitchen has asked us to test some of their treats & give our opinion.  There seems to be some good smellin' stuff in here....

Lexie seems to be tryin' to decide what to try first...it all smells sooo good.  We've never had any of this stuff.  Lexie thought we had won the lottery.
Lots of good stuff to choose from....Beams, Wishes, & Icy Pups

I finally had to tell Lexie that we needed to make a selection & get this thing started.

She finally got down to business & selected the Beams as our first test product.

Now...I just have to interject somethin', before we go any further.  Lexie & I are professionals...we can only be bribed by mom, dad, & most of our friends.  (Lexie, especially...she can be bribed w/almost anything)...BUT when it comes to givin' our opinion...that's what we'll do.

It's no wonder Lexie picked this first.  They just smell heavenly.  Who knew we'd like fish that much? They're sticks made from wild-caught Atlantic Catfish in the ocean waters of Iceland.  They are a good source of lean protein & Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids. They come in two sizes. The "Talls" (12") for $12.99/7oz  & the "Smalls" (7") for $8.99/4oz

We both loved these & wanted more.  There aren't very many in the package & they don't last long at all.    They say they are a good alternative to a chicken chew or bully stick...but I dunno about that, taste wise..yes...as a long lastin' chew..maybe not. Just a couple of crunches & you're wantin' another one. & another one. They are that good.  We give 'em a 4 paws up...but I can see a problem with keepin' the home pantry stocked up on 'em & havin' 'em on hand all the time. It's hard to eat just one, although we did test the "Smalls".  I think pretty much any dog will love these.  Both Lexie & I recommend these.

Next, were the "Wishes"....another fish treat.  These wild caught Haddock fillets were really good, too.  Again, we thought there needed to be more in the package.  They can be broken up & used as a training treat.  There's not much chewing to these....depending on if you get a whole piece or just a small broken piece by your mom, who's tryin' to make 'em last longer. They are high in protein & low in fat & carbs.  They only come in one size....$8.99 for 2oz.

Lexie & I really liked these, too.  I think Lexie was bein' a lil' scarcastic here, actin' like she was really chewin' that piece of haddock, or she was lickin' the grass & makin' sure she didn't leave a crumb.  Given a choice b'tween a cookie & one of these...these win paw down. We gave these a 4 paws up, also.  They are really good.  Don't know or care if cats like 'em or not...but we sure did.

I decided to check out the book they sent.

(Did you ever notice how hard it is to turn the page with out any thumbs?)

Lots of information....all their food is human grade....& dehydrated...& without chemicals

Hmmm....did you know that humans taste every ingredient that goes into their recipes as part of their development process?
Well....we weren't finished.  We had to wait to test our next product...Ice Pups.

Mom decided that since it was soooooo hot...she'd freeze us some pops with it. It's a powder that you add water to, containing dehydrated chicken, turkey, whey, dandelion, asparagus, watercress, honey & parsley.  You can serve it as a warm broth in the winter, freeze it (like we did) or even mix it up & serve it over ice.  They claim it's also a good & easy way to increase fluid intake if necessary.  You can purchase it two ways, .5oz/99 cents or an 8oz box of  16 individual packages for $16.99.

We had been really looking forward to trying this out.  Cooling off with an icy treat is one of our favorite things to do when it's soooo hot.

But....it's not as good as I expected....sorry...I'm just not likin' it...
MOM...do I have to eat it all?    Can I have somethin' else?

Of course, Lexie loved the stuff....sometimes I wonder if she has any kind of palate at all.  Actually, she does..and she does like any kind of poulty & also, likes veggies. (ex..she has her own private stash of lil' carrots in the fridge, which she gets everytime that door gets open, & helps herself to a multitude of stuff out in mom's gardens...beans, hibiscus, mint...I've even seen her eat lettuce).

She licked her bowl clean & immediately tried to find out if I was gonna eat mine or not.   Actually, she was demanding it.  That never works with me. I'm layin' in the shade...I coulda' stayed there till that stuff melted, before lettin' her have it.  Finally, she laid down & was polite...so, I let her have it, in exchange for one of her other pieces of haddock. It was a win/win, as far as I was concerned.   So, you see, we have a mixed review of this stuff.  Lexie loved it...I didn't care for it at all. I think all that green stuff in there was a big turn off for me.  (As you know, I'm not as big on veggies & greens as she is.) Give me some regular no salt/low fat chicken broth, any day. It's not gonna matter what shape or temp. Ice Pups is in...I'm not gonna be havin' it. Our suggestion is to try a small package, you might like it.

So...there you have it folks.  Glad we could help.  The folks at the Honest Kitchen are serious about taking a healthy approach to pet foods & treats.  There's lots of information on their website. So,  check 'em out!!

The Beginnin' of the Great 'Mater War of 2013

Now, as some of you may know, my mom...well, to put it nicely...she's not your ordinary type, in fact..."wacky" has been used to describe her.  She's just different. When somethin' happens she don't like, she tends to not mess around. Mom's the kind of person that if she thinks there's gonna be a knife fight....she'll bring a shotgun, lol.  Remember the problem w/the yellow jackets?  They  had a huge nest in the back yard  under some boards? I kept snappin' at 'em..& then one of them made the mistake to sting mom. Dad was gonna use wasp spray, that didn't work..just stirred 'em up.....mom set fire to 'em & when that didn't kill 'em all, she made a tent w/one of dad's tarps & put not one, but two insect bombs under there. (In case you don't know..one bomb is enough for a house...this was only about 2-3 feet square).  Have to admit, it did work. Around here, you just never know what she's gonna do.  A tree limb gets in her way...she'll get out her clippers...that don't work...she'll get out the chainsaw. Whatever the problem is...she's gonna think on it & come up w/somethin'...sometimes it works...sometimes it don't...but she's gonna try it, no matter how wacky it may be.

Today's problem was her 'maters.  Last nite, it actually rained. In fact, it was still rainin' this mornin'...a lite rain, but rain none the less.  It was cool & refreshin'.  Naturally, we took the nite off from our AHS duties.  In fact, I spent the whole nite in bed w/mom & dad, all stretched out at the foot of their bed, w/ my head across mom's feet.  It was great!  Well, back to this mornin'...about 11 am, it had slowed to a sprinkle, & we all went out to enjoy the cool weather.  Mom headed straight for her garden.  We immediately heard a not too happy sound from her....somethin' had been in her garden.....an' had chomped on about half a dozen of her 'maters!

Mom was NOT a happy camper. Nope...not at all!  Lexie & I ran into the kitchen w/her & all three of us examined the evidence.  We came to the conclusion that it's that mouse that we discovered in dad's grill the other day.

He was probably a scout for his gang of thievin' mices. Under the cover of rain, they infiltrated mom's garden & vandalized her 'maters!  Just from the look on her face...Lexie & I knew them mices were in for it now!  Whether they know it or not...war has been declared!

First, she decided to get rid of all those plants behind dad's grill.  She spent a couple of hours in the hot sun, diggin' & diggin' up all those canna lilies. She'll probably put some of 'em back & make it look nice...but for now...she's declared those mices aren't gonna have anywhere to hide by the garden...or dad's grill.  She can really work up a sweat when she's mad. But she wasn't thru...she has a secondary plan....an' it's not fencin' or tyin' me or Lexie in the garden all nite....although, she admits it was one of those passin' thoughts when she was brainstormin' w/herself.  (Whew! That's a relief...sleepin' in the dirt all nite as opposed to a cushy bed in the AC is not my idea of a way to spend the nite.) What she did come up with...well, you're not gonna believe it...

Not sure where she got this idea....but it sure looks funny.  My first impression was it looked like snacks....green 'mater snacks.  She put zippy lock bags around each & every 'mater.  Not only that...she stuck cotton balls w/peppermint oil & vicks vapor rub (she ran outa peppermint oil) on the outside of each bag. Like I said...she's different...in fact, while she was sittin' in the livin' room makin' all these bags (about 30 of 'em).  Dad didn't even ask.  This type of behavior is kinda the norm...lol.

Well...she finally finished all of em. Went back in the house, put up all her stuff...washed the vicks vapor rub off her hands.  Got herself a big glass of cold sweet tea an' headed back outside to see what we were up to. The last she had seen of us...we were havin a game of chase w/some bitey face & wrastlin'.  It had finally cooled off & dad had mowed the grass & it just flat out felt good to romp around.  Mom could hear Lexie barkin' at me...it's the special bark she uses when we're playin' & she's got somethin'.  She wants to play "keep away" with it & wants me to chase her.  Mom saw her first. You shoulda seen Lexie's eyes get big...& mom's eyes get big, too.  There was Lexie w/one of them zippy lock bags with lil' 'maters in it.  (see...I told you they looked like snack bags of 'maters).  Lexie had ran thru the garden, grabbed one, & it came right off the plant...just like a vendin' machine for 'mater snacks.  Mom kinda yelled at Lexie to "drop it".  Lexie initially panicked...& thought she'd "cute" her way out. She ran around in a lil' circle with it in her mouth hopin' mom would maybe play chase w/her, lil' 'maters bouncin' outa the bag all over the yard....then she figured out mom wasn't in the playin' mood....so she came to her senses & dropped it like a hot 'tater...or 'mater.  Mom went & retrieved the, now, snack bag of lil' green 'maters (or what was left), an' proceeded to round up all the loose ones in the grass. Then she went back to her garden for another inspection...everything else seemed ok...but now, she's a lil' apprehensive about her plan.

After all that excitement, mom went back in the house, picked up two green beans layin' on the rug in front of the tv (muttered somethin' about Lexie thinkin' she's a vegetarian & shootin' her a look w/squinty eyes). Then she ordered herself a new toy...or weapon....a rodent zapper!  Like I said...she don't like to mess around.

I can't wait to see how this turns out.   The suspense of if any of this works....or.....what if it don't?  What will she come up with next?  What I do know, is that I think we've rubbed off on her....she ain't gonna give up.

Shhh...this is Lexie....I'm hijackin' Bailey's Blog.....

I just had to!  'Cause it was just so horrible...terrible....couldn't believe it even happened!  We was all at home, an' mommy had just given me & Bailey a bully stix. I was really enjoyin' it, especially since I had just traded w/Bailey  (his is always better).  Then my daddy came in the room & said he was goin' to the store. Ol' Bailey runs up & sits in front of him & points to his lead. I jumped up on the couch & sat on that box & wagged & wagged. Them my daddy got down Bailey's lead & put it on him. Mommy came & sat next to me on my box. I thought she was just gonna help put my lead on....but noooooooo. That's not what happened at all!  My daddy took Bailey out the front door......without me!

I ran to the door, but it was closed.  I ran to the kitchen window, & I could hear that truck door close. I ran back to the front door...surely my daddy was comin' back to get me. Then I heard the most horrible thing....daddy's truck started & then was leavin'. I was frantic...this couldn't be happenin'. I was makin' noises....I couldn't decide whether to bark or cry, as I ran from the kitchen back to the front door.

Mommy tried to talk to me...but I was too upset. She even tried to give me my bully stix...but I just couldn't enjoy it knowin' they was gone.  Now, I understand why Bailey never eats his treat when mommy & daddy leave us.  How can it even taste good, when you don't know what's happenin'...& you're home alone. I still just couldn't believe it.  I've only been alone without Bailey maybe 2 times. I was just beside myself!

Then mommy called me over to Bailey's futon. You know the one he get on & watches the neighborhood goin's on. She told me they were gonna be "right back" & to "watch for 'em'.  I liked that idea & climbed up there just like Bailey, only I wasn't watchin' the neighborhood. I was watchin' down the street to where my daddy's truck turned, so I'd know as soon as they turned the corner to come back!

Mommy....are you sure theys gonna be right back?

I don't see 'em............

It's been prob'ly 5minutes....Where are they?!

I'm still watchin'...but don't see 'em...... <sigh>

Mommy!....are you sure they's comin' right back....'cause I still don't see em....
Still watchin' & watin'...........

This is hard work....I've been here like forever...& theys still not comin' .....
Ok......this is better...I'll watch like this....

Oh...oh...is that them?.........no, still not comin'....
I give up...............

Yippeee!!!.....they came HOME!  I was on my box all ready for my daddy & Bailey!  I am sooooo happy!
I was so glad to see Bailey!  I ran right outside for a quick game of bitey face. (right after I hid his bully stix).

What lovely winter weather we're havin' this spring!

Hasn't been the bestest couple days...it's s'posed to be spring...but I think it got lost somewhere, 'cause it's not here. First, we had big storms blow thru. We were lucky, 'cause just down the road a ways, they had giant chunks of ice bigger than any of our balls fall right from the sky. It broke windows, destroyed aluminum siding off houses, dented cars..just all kinds of damage. We got lots of rain. Mom's had us under lock down...well, as much as she can. This mornin', mom went outside w/her coffe, came right back inside shiverin', 'cause it's about 48 degrees, grey & wet.  We did get to go out last nite, 'cause it wasn't rainin', but it was kinda cold & wet.  Of course, 'cause we'd been inside all day....right off the bat, we caught a r'coon prowlin' around in the back corner.  We both hit high gear & were after it likety split. It hit the top of the fence, just as we hit that corner. I had to tell Lexie to back off.  Those things can be dangerous...& I don't let her get involved if it's somethin' dangerous.  She don't much like that, but I'm the one in charge, afterall. As soon as I tried to jump up at it & drag it's furry butt off that fence, it dropped down in the field on the other side. I was soooo mad, I really let it have it, at the top of my lungs. Lexie added her two cents in, too. Then mom came outside in her brite flourescent plasticey shoes (guess it was too wet for her slippers) & trusty lite.  I showed her where the point of entry was for that bandit. She shined her lite in the field & we all looked thru the fence. Naturally, she didn't see anything..but me & Lexie went down the fence line trackin' it's escape route to the backwoods, as best as we could from the "wrong" side of the fence. Mom was still tryin' to see somethin'. Finally, she gave up & said it was "all gone" & to "go to the house". Don't know who she was talkin' to out in the dark by herself, 'cause  we had already determined that & were in the house. In fact, I was gettin' a drink (all that hollerin' does make a body thirsty), & Lexie was up in bed w/dad...layin' on mom's pillow. Mom shooed her off her bed, turned off all the lites, put on her jammies & then got in bed. She was back outa bed in a flash. I didn't need to have a lite on to see her face...it wasn't a happy one. She was tryin' to be quiet, 'cause dad was asleep...but she was usin' a towel to try to brush off some of the grit that somehow magically was all over her pillow & sheet.  This mornin', she still wasn't happy....sayin' she feels like she'd been to the beach, but didn't have any fun...just gritty. So, after a shower, all the beddin' in the was....some "looks" at Lexie , she's locked us outa her room & is hopin' for spring to get here as quick as possible. Lexie, in the meantime has already been out squirrelin', leaves lil' patches of grit everywhere she goes, is nappin' by the back door on mom's big chair with some weeds stuck to her,  & a patch of sand on the floor. She's all comfy 'cause she pulled back the blanket mom put on to cover it, & is oblivious to the whole thing and as happy as a clam.

What do you mean it's your "Day Off"?

Interesting morning....first off..I was sure dad forgot to set his alarm, so I woke him up at 3:30 am w/one loud "woof"...really close to him.. Needless to say, he got up (I don't have a snooze alarm..& he knew that my paw was ready to give him a lil' "push" if he didn't). He let us out....then.....he went back to bed. Well, it's not like I have a calendar in my pocket. I didn't know he didn't have to go to work. Which woulda' been A-ok in my book, but guess what happened. He went back to bed. Not only that, he forgot to open Lexie's lil' doggy door. We were stuck outside! We waited, we patrolled (Tthere's not much goin' on at that time of mornin'. the Nite varmits have already been out & about & are snoozin...the early mornin' ones haven't gotten up, yet)...we even tried waitin' patiently. Then we got to worryin' about mom. You see, after dad leaves for work...I get up in the big bed w/mom (on dad's pillow) & Lexie stations herself in the doorway, while mom sleeps....totally secure & safe w/us on the job. We didn't know dad was still there...where was mom?...what was going on? It had been almost two hours...this was not right at all! So, I started hollerin'. Almost immediately...the big door opened & there was dad. There we were sittin' right on the other side. Before he could say or do anything...we zoomed past. Lexie grapped her stuffed puppy (just in case mom needed it for some reason) & we both made a beeline for mom. There she was ...asleep. Lexie pushed her puppy in mom's face, I jumped up & started sniffin' & kissin' to make sure she was ok. She seemed ok...there seemed to be some muttering..as she told us to lay down & go to sleep. Then she rolled over ...then started grumblin' about grit on her face when she pulled up on the covers (which was kinda amazin' that she could, since I was layin' across her chest & Lexie was across her legs.) Then dad tried to get back in bed...I scooted over & managed to get on the edge of his pillow (I was gonna share..kinda). He laid down....then I started wrigglin' & pushin' w/my legs...by the time I was good & comfy..he was barely hangin' on the edge. Mom went back to sleep (w/Lexie's puppy tucked next to her), me & Lexie were snoozin'...but dad..well, he finally gave up & got up. Woo hoo, more room for us!

DRUG BUST

HS--Special Report
Sat. 2/15/2013

At approximately 3:30 in the afternoon (a hot & sunny afternoon), Lexie & I were securing the perimeter of the back yard, while mom & dad were workin'. Dad was puttin' up parts to the new grape arbor, & mom was messin' around in her gardens.  They'd been at it all day. (I have to tell you, keepin' track of everybody is hard work).  Anyway,  all of a sudden...I detected movement & noise on the other side of the fence by the field. I alerted Lexie to stop messin' around in the garden chasin' frogs & lizards & meet me at the fence, for a possible breach.
She was immediately zoomin' across the yard fast & low. We both got there just as two unknown subjects walked by our fence towards the woods carryin' shovels.  We gave 'em plenty of warnin'...to turn back. They proceeded to not only continue on & ignore us...but turned at the end of that fence, to our back fence..then fought their way thru the brush to the edge of the woods.  By this time...I'm just livid & roarin'.  Mom & dad come to see what's happenin'...Mom tells dad to ask them what they're up to back there & to go back where they came from.  He did...they continue on...& ignore him.  I had quietened down while dad was talkin'...but now I was back to roarin'...& Lexie was addin' her two cents.
A couple of things on mom's zero tolerance list is disrespect & punk kids.  (She managed hundreds & hundreds of 16-21 yrs olds....so, she's got this list).
Mom watched them walk down that lil' path..then take a right turn into the woods.....she walked into the house,  called the police...she told them about those guys goin' into the woods with shovels.  Like she said...they were either diggin' somethn' up or plantin' somethin' somewheres they had not business bein'.  The police agreed...& went back in the woods to investigate.
When the police came down our fence lines...mom told us they were the good guys...so, we just kept an eye on 'em.
After awhile....the police came back outa the woods...they didn't catch the guys...but they found a lil' homemade shack & a bunch of marijuana growin'.  They said they'd be back to get rid of the plants & tear down that shack.
In closing...I'm proud to say that AHS can now add "drug bust" & "assisting local aw enforcement" to our files.
On a personal note to mom...I think a bonus is in order.

Baths n' Nails

It's been cold & drizzly allll day long. You'd think it'd be a perfect day to lay on the couch w/mom & snooze while she watches a movie or somethin'.  Nope!  First, she grabs Lexie & is givin' her a quickie haircut..sayin's she's lookin' too much like a woolie monkey.  Then she popped her into the shower. I was keepin' an eye on the situation, & as soon as Lexie zoomed outa there....I headed for the great outdoors. I figured it was too cold to be gettin' a bath. Dang it....mom had us locked in...next thing I knew...mom was standin' in front of me & pointin' to the back & tellin' me to "go get in the shower".  I went...but I sure didn't want to.  She got me all wet & then reached for my new shampoo...then moved the towels around...then closed the shower door w/me inside, tellin' me to wait. Well, what else was I gonna do?  So, I waited...while she went to track Lexie down.  She had snuck off w/my bottle of shampoo. Mom found it in the livingroom...guess it didn't taste as good as it smelled.  Mom came back &  I was still standin' soakin' wet in the shower stall...wonderin' "what the heck?".  Most people are gonna be surprised I stayed there...but know what?  It's really hard to get surprised by stuff around here...the unusual, is usually the norm. lol.
After our baths we got blow dried & brushed.. Mom had just finished us, when dad came home. Then we all loaded up & headed to Petsmart.  Lexie was goin' to see the vet about her eye. I've been keepin' an eye on it, too. But mom wanted some medicine for it.  We got there a lil' early, so mom decided we needed to get our nails cut. First Lexie was taken back. Then the "girls" decided to go ahead & do mine at the same time.  But guess what...dad came to check on us..& there I was..right behind the counter, standin' on the floor.  No lead or nothin'..holdin' my paws up & lettin' them just grind & file away..w/a big grin on my face.  Now, mom was mad at dad for not tellin' her...so she coulda' gotten a picture. Neither one of them could believe it. Mom's been takin' me to Petsmart for my nails for a couple of years.  The last time her & dad did it (or tried to do it)..there was the three of us wrastlin' on my bed...it's a wonder there were no sprains,  pulled muscles, broken noses or black eyes...not to mention what might have happened to me. (I've never like my feet messed with). After that...she figures it's worth $10 for them to do it, little do they know she woulda' paid much more.  What can I say...I've always thought of Petsmart as a place that caters to me...my vet's there, my school was there...my fans are there....so, I have a public image to uphold...plus I like those cute lil' girls. They always ooohhh & awww over me...what's not to like?

It's a RAT!

Not an official AHS memo..just a lil' note-
Mom...mom...mom....I think you need to stay outa our biz..we're professionals & have everything under control.  I understand you wanna help...but Lexie & I have regular procedures in place to apprehend unwanted "visitors".  We'll come get you, if we need some backup.
I know you were just tryin' to help & were enjoying bein' able to go outside on such a pretty morning, especially since it poured down rain all day yest. An...I know you got excited when you saw us flush that rat out from under the pond fountain & when it rain up into the top of the palm tree. But when you ran into the house to get that boom stick & slammed the door...then ran back outside...well, what did you expect to happen? We had it cornered...but then you spooked it & off it jumped into the bushes.
I was tryin' to keep everything under control..givin' directions to Lexie, sniffin' out the bushes, checkin' out the trees...& watchin' out for you. As you figured out...it got away. After that, you decided to leave us to it..& went back in the house, to do some laundry. I escorted you to the house, since I needed a water break anyway.
You are now aware of our current varmit problem, & I know you have concerns. Especially after what happened next. Just wanted to say "sorry" that I almost knocked you down...but when you made that weird sound after turnin' on the lite in that laundry room..I thought maybe you'd seen somethin'. So, I barreled right past you to take care of the danger......Lexie's dirty rattie layin' in the middle of the floor....
It's ok, mom...no matter how big or "small"...we've got you covered. <3

Cold, Wet 'n Rainy Day..What to do....

Wow...we were looking forward to a whole day w/mom & dad. Maybe goin' for a long walk by the nature center...or a ride. Well, that didn't happen. First off, it started rainin', a lot. So we were all stuck inside. Lexie & I tried to make the best of it, by draggin' out almost all our toys, havin' a couple games of chase (usin' mom as base), & there was some wrastlin' involved. Finally, mom decided we needed a quieter game. She told us to go in her room & "hide our eyes". (We love this game...& know what's comin'). We went in there & jumped up on her bed to wait.  After a few minutes, she told us to "go find". This was extra exciting, 'cause we didn't know what she hid. We ran out in the living room & started our searchin', goin' to some of the regular places, like our beds, under pillows, behind chairs...ya know, the obvious places. She had hid some of our treats & some of our duck jerky. What she didn't do was pick up any of our toys, & there was quite a collection. Bein' extra sneaky, she hid stuff under our toys & in 'em. We were busy for a long time...well, at least 5 minutes longer than usual. LOL

About lunch time...it finally stopped rainin', & we got to go outside. It was awesome, cold & the ground was soft, just perfect for some runnin' & rompin'.  We played & played...you just can't properly let off steam in the house...you just can't....

She may look little, but don't be fooled...

Zoooommmmmm

What?  I'm not ready to go back in....

She can spin on a dime....

I'm waitin' for Lexie to finish her lap around the fig tree & I'm gonna get her when she comes back around....he hehe....

After awhile, it started drizzlin' again, so mom made us come back inside. We were ready.  Mom & dad were settin' up a movie/snack tray for them & we didn't want to miss out on that, anyway. So, we came inside for a lil' nappin' & snackin'.   Dad decided that we'd been real good & even cooked us a burger.  It was awesome  (next time....hope we don't have to share & we get one each).

BORED!....it started rainin' harder........again....

That's how our day went.....cold & rainy...high spots & bored spots...but we got to spend it w/both mom & day...so it was alllll good. About 10 last nite...the weather was perfect. We had rested up & were ready for some action. Mom let us out, & we took a bunch of toys out & had some awesome games of chase. I tried to get mom involved, but she wasn't interested for some reason.

First Bath of 2013...

Well, we got our first baths of 2013. Mom's hopin' it's not an indication of how the rest of the year is gonna go. First off, let me get this part outa the way. My eyebrows better grow back before Valentine's Day, or everyone is just gonna see pictures of me wearin' a paper sack over my head. Mom said we were just gettin' baths, but she just couldn't leave well enough alone & started messin' w/my face after I got blow dried. Before I knew what was happenin'...she put the scissors down & was smoothin' the hair where my eyebrows are supposed to be & makin' "they'll grow back" sounds. I sure hope so...like I said..I'm lookin' for a big sack, just in case.

Lexie got her bath & blow dried, too. (Mom left her some eyebrows & she's the wiggly one...go figure).  I don't know if you're aware, but Lexie has this hair on her legs that is....well, I can't even discribe it...it's just long & there's enough for 4 more dogs. After mom dried her...it's like she blew up...she's so poofy. Kinda explains why she has to be soaped up twice.  Just imagine each one of those millions of hairs on her legs coated w/dirt....then that first wash..the water looks like chocolate.  Now, me...I'm hardly dirty..dirt just don't stick to me..of course I don't wallor in it either.

Lexie...poofed & clean......lol

Mom wasn't gonna take any chances. She's been like a prison guard w/that back door.  Makin' us "ask' to go out...tellin' us to "come right back", rewardin' us w/ a treat when we did...bribin' us w/bully stix to keep us busy...indoors.   Actually, it was a pretty good plan.. It worked for hours & hours. Then right at dark, when mom was fixin' supper, Lexie came boltin' into the kitchen w/a big grin on her face. She  had come "right back" & was expectin' her reward of a cookie...

What she didn't expect, was mom pointin' at her feet, then grabbin' her & handin' her over to dad & sendin' them both back to the showers to get her feet washed.

We're both, now,  under lockdown.

Keep cool...., my friends in Oz!

It's HOT down under!   While we're all bundled up here in the states with winter, our friends in Oz are swelterin'!  We can't send you any snow.  Actually, I'm down here in Texas & we don't get snow, but it's cold & wet.  In the summer, it gets really hot for me & Lexie, too. So, I sympathize with you all.  Mom's always lookin' for ways to keep us cool. Here's my Frosty Paws recipe. Mom, also, makes us "ice bowl" treats..with chicken broth & puts in all sorts of stuff... bits of chicken, blueberries, rice..whatever. She gets kinda creative.  Sometimes...it's just ice..lol.

HOMEMADE FROSTY PAWS

32oz Vanilla yogurt
1 Mashed banana  (or large jar of baby food banana)
2 Tablespoons peanut butter
2 Tablespoons honey

Mix it all together & put in lil' cups & freeze!
(you can use lil' plastic cups or bowls & "pop" em out..or even lil' paper cups)
